Task 10 ( Folklore Story )

THE SYNOPSIS

Their once a boy named Tanggang, who lived in a small village near the beach. He came from a very poor family. Tanggang lived with his mother in an small and old house. Because he loved his mother so much he wanted to change the fate of his family by going to the big apple to find job. But his mother was worried that he would change. Eventually, Tanggang’s mother agrees to let her son go to the city. In the village, there’s a woman named Santi. She was Tanggang best and closed friends since childhood.  

         After a few years passed, Tanggang had become a rich and successful businessman. He also had found his soul mate, Marita who happens to be the daughter of the owner of the company that Tanggang work for. One day, Mr. Rudin (Marita’s father) asked him about his family because he wants to know Tanggang’s family before he marries to Marita, but Tanggang said that his an orphans which is a lie. The truth is, he doesn’t want people to know he comes from a poor family because it might embarrass him. On the wedding ceremony, Tanggaang was shock because his mother and his old friend Santi had come, everyone starting to question “who’s that old woman who claimed to be Tanggang’s mother?”. To protect his dignity he confessed to everyone that that the woman was not his mother and he dragged his own mother out of his wedding ceremony. Tanggang’s mother was very hearbroken because of his son’s attitude towards her. After a few argument, Tanggang’s mother pray so that he could realized of his action and aware of the consequences. Then after a struck of lightning Tanggang was transform from a person into a solid stone.  

SCENE 1

In an old village, there was lived a poor family but they were very grateful. Tanggang works as a fisherman, while his mother was just a house wife. Tanggang has a dream, he wants to change his way of living by finding a job in the city. 

Tanggang        : hmm …I wish one day I could be rich and change the fate of my family, so my mother  doesn’t have to work hard anymore. 

(Tanggang mother comes)

Mother            : Hey there son! Why do you look so sad? Is there something wrong?

Tanggang        :  Oh?! Hey mother. I was just thinking of something.

Mother            :  Thinking about what?

Tanggang        : mmm… thinking of a way how to improve our living. That’s all.

Mother            : Theirs is no need of changing of anything my son, because as long as I have you by my side, I’m happy and grateful enough.

Tanggang        : As long as you are happy I am too. Mmm… mother? I have been thinking about this for a long time, so I was wondering if I could go to the city to find a job.

Mother            : Huh?... why? I thought you already have job here? Don’t you like it?

Tanggang        : No! That’s not what I meant mother! It’s just that the payment in the city is higher than here. Also, we could afford to buy your medicine and buy a new house.

Mother             :  hmmm… well if that’s what you what, then I won’t stop you. Anyway, you are                                      grown man after all. Just make sure you will promise me one thing!

Tanggang        : what’s that mother?

Mother            : don’t forget where you came from, and your responsibility while you are in the city,                                alright?

 Tanggang       : don’t worry mother I promise! I’m doing this for the sake of our family.

Mother            : good! That’s my boy.

SCENE 2

Before moving to the city, Tanggang wants to meet up with his best friend Santi, at the bridge.

Santi                      : Why did you want to see me? It’s something important?

Tanggang              : I want to tell you that I will go to the city to find job.

Santi                      : (sad) When are you going? Why do you want to find work so far away, is it                          because the work here is not good enough?

Tanggang             : It’s not that, I just want to find a better job so I could to change my family                             living.

Santi                     : Hmmm… I hope you will get a good job and can achieve your dream.

Tanggang             : Don’t be sad dear, I will be gone for a while and I am doing this for our                                  future together.      (smile)

Santi                     : I know that but I want you to promise me that you will not forget where you                          care from your family.

Tanggang             : Yes I promise dear, don’t worry to much, I know what I’m doing okay.

Santi                     : Living in the city is not same as in the village, so be careful and try to do                                 your responsibility.

Tanggang             : I know believe me, I will not easily be influenced by the luxury life in the city.

Santi                     : I felt so relief when I heard you said that

Tanggang             : Please take care of mother okay. Maybe tomorrow I will go to the city.

Santi                     : I will take good care of your mother, I promise you that! I so don’t worry                               about it.

Tanggang             : Thank you dear.

Santi                     : (smile)

SCENE 3

On the day of Tanggang’s moving to the city, everyone was sad. Especially his mother. Tanggang never live his mother this faraway. Everyone said farewell to him and giving motivated advise.

Grandmother    : When you reach there, I hope you can take care of yourself. Don’t be                                          influenced by the thing that is not good. Grandma wishes you could change the                             fate of our family.

Santi                : What is supposed right by grandmother, you have to take care of yourself and I                           hope you don’t forget the promise we include the origins you okay.

Mother             : I only hope that you could to return quickly and safely. Mother will always pray                         for your success there.

Tanggang           : (stand close to his mother and said) Mother! You don’t have to worry about                              me, I know how to take care of myself, grandma too! I will remember all the                            massage okay. And you Santi I also remember our promise and will fulfill it. I                                   hope you can help to take care of my family when I’m gone.

Tanggang           : (say goodbye).

SCENE 4

                               After couple of years, Tanggang had finely riche his dreams of becoming a successful businessman. But what he doesn’t realize is that he had become very greedy and had forgot his responsibility and promises towards his family. So, one day Marita’s parents invited Tanggang to there house for dinner.

Tanggang        : Assalamualaikum.. uncle, aunt.

Uncle/aunt       : Walaikumsalam…

Uncle               : How are you today? Tanggang.

Tanggang        : Fine, thank you.

Uncle/aunt       : Please come in.

Uncle               : How was the business  today?

Tanggang         : Yeah!!!everything went good and we had gain more profit then we expected                                 this month!

Uncle                : Wow! That’s great keep up the good work, and hope I hope you can manage                                  the company to success in the near future!!

Tanggang          : Thank you uncle. I will do my best.

Aunt                  : Emm… aunt also prayer for the best for you! And hope that you and Marita                                  will get married soon!

Tanggang          :[smile]

Uncle                 : Where is Maritha? Why isn’t she arrive yet? Tanggang is already here. Mom                                  can you please called her!

Aunt                   : Maritha! Maritha! Come and have dinner with us!

Maritha              : Yes! Mother , I’m coming.

Aunt                   : Came here and have dinner with us. Tanggang already at the dinner table.                                      Let’s have dinner together.

Maritha              : Ok! Give a minutes.

Uncle                 : Oh! Tanggang, I never know about you family. How are they?

Tanggang           : (He stop eat and feel scared. He don’t know what should he say).

Aunt                   : Yes! I also never know about your family. Where are they?

Tanggang           : (He lie) and say my mother and father had passed away. When I was twelve                                  years old.

Aunt,uncle,maritha  : [silence]

Uncle & aunt        :I’m very sorry to hear that.

Tanggang             : it’s alright, please let enjoy our dinner.

Tanggang             : Thank you so nuch aunt and uncle because invited me for dinner.

Aunt & uncle       : You’re welcome.

Aunt                      : If you have time, please drop by move often.

Tanggang             : Ok! I’ll try.

Tanggang             : Well Maritha, I’m going home now, take care!

Maritha                : Oh! Mmm…but Tanggang, can I ask yousomething?

Tanggang             : What’s that my dear, I just asked me.

Maritha                : When are you going to purpose to me?

Tanggang             : Be patience, I will married you soon don’t worry ok.

Maritha                : Promise meee……

Tanggang             : Ok I’ll promise you with all my heart.

Maritha                : Ok, take care and drive carefully!! Bye, love you!

Tanggang             : Bye.. love you to.

SCENE 5

It has been so long that Tanggang had come home. Her mother had missed him so much that every day she pray for him.

Mother             :I can’t wait Tanggang to arrive home. It has been a long time since he is been                                gone. I miss him a lot, I hope he will come home soon.

While Santi was reading  the newspaper, she had noticed that tanggang face was on the front cover. Then she ran to Tanggang’s mother to tell her.

Santi                : Aunt! Aunt! Aunt! …. Look at this news paper. Tanggang has become a                                      successful man. Just like he wanted to be.

Mother             : Oh! At last my son had achieve all his dreams, I am so proud at him Mmm…..                             look at the address santi. I think we can find him there.

Santi                : Yes! We should try and find him.

(Mother & Rossa feel happy and smile with hope).

SCENE 6

After they had found the address, they walked straight to the operator’s counter. 

(In the Office’s building)

Operator          : Hello miss welcome! How can I help you?

Mother            : oh Hi! I was wondering, is there a person named Tanggang work here?

Operator          : Oh yes. He is our new CEO in this company.

Mother            :  oh really?.. That’s amazing! Where can I find him?

Operator          : mmm… do you have an appointment with him? What’s your name?

Mother            : Huh? Appointment? What’s that? I’m just his mother.

Operator          : Mother? But Tanggang is an orphan and he doesn’t have any family here.

Mother            : No! That’s not true! Tanggang still have me, I am his mother! Who told you                                 that!

Operator          : (Confused) I’m sorry, but maybe you are mistaken with someone else.

(Tanggang saw the argument at the operator’s counter. Then he realize that the old lady was his mother. So he quickly walks towards her and pull her out of the building)

Tanggang        : what are you doing here mother? (Whispering)

Mother            : oh my son! Why haven’t you come home and visited me? I had missed you so much.

Tanggang        : Sshh…!! Don’t talk to loud! I’m fine, it’s just that my schedule has been very                              occupied lately. Anyway, what are you doing here? Tell me what do you need?                             Money?

Mother             :  No! What’s wrong with you! I don’t what your money! I just what to see my                              son and spent time with him!

Tanggang        : Maybe next time, because now is not the perfect time, sorry mother. I promise if                          I have any free time I will come and visit you.  Here’s some money for you to                                  bring home.

Mother            : (sad) alright then, I understand. Take care yourself. I love you son.

Tanggang        : o.k, ok! I love you to! Hurry and go now! Bye.

(At Tanggang’s Office)

Marita             : hey Sweetie! How are you?

Tanggang        : oh?!.. Hey dear! You surprise me. Every things fine, anyway what are you                                   doing? I thought you were at home?

Marita              : I was. But I was going out for awhile, so I stopped by to check on you. That’s                             all.

Tanggang        : Oww. Don’t worry about me, I can take care of my self. (smile)

Marita             :  Alright! Mmm… can I asked you something?

Tanggang        : Sure! What is it?

Marita             : It’s about the old lady that you just talk to, is she your family?

Tanggang        : No! She is not! She was just a bagger, so I gave her some money. Anyway,                                  haven’t I told you that my parents had died in an accident?

Marita             : How thoughtful of you. That’s good.Well never mind, it doesn’t matter anyway.                         I have to go now see you at home and remember don’t come home late, otherwise                            your dinner will get cold!

Tanggang        : I’ll remember and promise to come home before dinner time. Careful on your                               way home alright?

Marita             : Alright! Bye! (smile)

Tanggang        : bye!(smile)

SCENE 7
After arriving from the city from visiting his son , then a few week later Santi heard from the villagers that Tanggang was getting married with a famous entrepreneur’s daughter.

(Tanggang’s House)

Mother            : Why Santi? Tell me.
Santi               : I want to tell you that Tanggang’s  is getting married soon.
Mother            : How did you know my son is getting? And where is my son now? With who is                           my son getting  married?
Santi                : I read in the newspaper that Tanggang will get married with a successful                                      businesswoman.
Mother            : Why haven’t Tanggang I told me? I am his mother ! I must be present his                                     wedding day.
Santi                : But..
Mother             : Please Santi, just for once, I understand your feeling towards him.
Santi                : hmm..okay aunty I’ll accompany to you his wedding day.

(Marriage Ceremony) Tanggang & Marita

On  the wedding day, Tanggag and his future wife was ready to get married until his mother and his old friend rushed the ceremony.  

Mother            : Oh my son ! you already got what you deserve ! why didn’t you tell me that you                         will be married? I really miss you my so !!
Marita              : Who is this woman Tanggang?
Tanggang        : I do not know this woman !! please get her out of here !!!
Mother            :  What? why are you doing this? I am your mother, which raise you from birth.
Tanggang        : hei!!you woman !! you a lien ! we never meet you! anyway my mother already                             passed away many years ago !

(Mother cry) 

Santi                : Tanggang, dare you insult your own mother ! she had raised you to be good                                 person but, this is what you had become? she feed food and give you shelter !but                          this now you repay her?
Tanggang        : argh !! I do not know you two!!you both go away!! Go!! now!! I never want to                           see you again!!
Mother            : “My god, my god yes, I beg you give my son lessons to redeem all his sins,                                  amin”

After his mother his mother prayer Tanggang had become a solid rock foever, by the gods because of his sins to his own mother. Everyone couldn’t explain what had happen.  Even his own mother was shocked after what had happen to his son. (Let this be a lessen to every one, that our mother is the most precious treasure in the world that a child could have ) 

Task 9

Summarize

A new form of lie detector that works by voice analysis and which can be used without a subject’s knowledge has been introduce in Britain. The Dektor psychological stress analyzer (PSE) is used by private industry for pre-employment screening, investigating thefts, and even periodic staff checks. It can understood voice generation mechanisms-vibrations of the vocal  chords and resonance of inside the head-there is a third component caused by vibration of the muscle inside the mouth and the throat. Other than that, it Dektor  emphasizes than the device shows only stress, not dishonesty. In the US,  the device is used for pre-employment interview, with question such as ‘Have you used marihuana?’ and for monthly checks with branch managers, asking question like ’Do you suspect any present employees of cheating the company?’-which at least prevent a manager from setting his own pace to investigate possibly suspicious behavior. The objection to its use are than most serious problem is that its primary application will be in situation where people may not object-such as pre-employment interview. The PSE can be used without the subject even knowing; its inventors analyzed the televised Watergate hearing and told the press who they thought was lying.

Task 8

CAST AWAY MOVIE

The movie was about a man who got stranded because of the plane crashed into the Pacific Ocean. The plane crashed because the weather is not so good in that night. It has storm, thunder, heavy rain, and tempest. All the crew members were died except Tom Hanks. He was saved because of the safety float boat. Finally he was landed at the lonely island that is no inhabited live there. The some of the things that he does when he was laded at the island was picked up all the packages that were floating on the ocean. He looking for people at the island but unfortunately there were nobody there. He also make a big HELP words to notice people who past the island either using a plane or a boat. It was very hard for Tom Hanks to live at the island or the first time. It was hard when he want to split the coconut with a rock, to make a fire and to catch a fish. He also make a fried with a ball ad he called the ball, Wilson. He created Wilson’s face with his bloods that bleed at his hand. His hand was bleed when he wants to create a fire. Lastly, he successfully created a fire. He also trying to escape from the island with a safety float boat but he failed to do it when he was faced with a big wave. Four years later he makes a raft for him to escape from the island. Now he brings Wilson with him also. When he faces with a big wave, he releases aluminum to make them past the big wave. Finally they did it. He was very happy with his successful. But he still stuck at the ocean when he faces with a heavy rain, storm and thunder again. The aluminum dropped off from his raft and lastly his raft also broken and cannot been used again. In the next morning when he was slept, Wilson was slip from the raft. When Tom Hanks awake, he notices that Wilson did not have at the raft anymore. He kept looking for the Wilson and he found Wilson was floating on the ocean. He jumped into the ocean to saved Wilson but unfortunately he failed to save Wilson because Wilson was too far from him. Now he was lonely. He was so sad about losing Wilson. When he was a slept, there was big cargo ship past his raft. His awake and raise his hand to asking for a help. Lastly, he was been save from the member ship. After four weeks later he was been interview because his name already popular with his missing about four years ago. His wife was got shocked when she got a called to informed her about Tom Hanks was still alive. At the FedEx airport, he was met his wife new husband. When his wife new husband leaved him alone, Tom Hanks was looking his wife from the window, he saw his wife was crying and want to meet him but her new husband was stopped her. Tom Hanks goes to his old house and met his wife. He got his car that his wife still kept it. When his half way to go back to his new house, his wife stopped him by run after his car and invited him to go inside and have a drink.  Inside the house, he told a story how he was got lost and until he was landed at the lonely island. The next morning, he goes to gave back a package that he still kept it. The house was at the farm but when he arrived at the house there were nobody at home. So, he just put it in front of the door and leaved a note. The note said,” this box was saved my life”. Then he leaved the house. He got lost at there and lastly he met a girl that stopped his car and she noticed Tom Hanks was lost.

If I was the main character, I would try to find as many alternatives to go back to my hometown as much as I could. I would not want to live alone at the creepy lonely island for too long.  I do not want to have a live at the lonely island without any inhabited. But one thing that I will not follow Tom Hanks; he ate a fish without cook it first by set it on the fire. I will make a fire first then set the fish on the fire. After the fish is cook I will eat it. If my fate live at the island for a long time like Tom Hanks, I will build a tree house for me to sleep. I do not want to sleep in the cave because I will cannot see anything in the cave.

Task 7

Topic: My Unforgettable Childhood Memories
Topic Sentence:  How happy are the childhood days, no work and all play this usual routine
Supporting Details: 

·         > My unforgettable childhood memories, I was in Kindergarten when I was five years old and when I playing with my friend at the playground I fell out of the cradle.

·         > When I was in primary school, I like chatting with my friends when teacher teach in front and I don’t pay an attention.

·         > The sad memories when we return home we found that my grandmother had pass away and at the same time my uncle had died too.

Conclusion: It was one of childhood memories that will never be forgotten.

       How happy are the childhood days, no work and all play this is usual routine. Sleep while you sleep and play while you are awake. No home task!  No fear of examinations! When I look back on those happy days of my life, I feel I have forgotten much of it, only a few events of my life stand out prominently. Everyone have a lot of childhood memories and some things we never forget it.

      This is a few of my unforgettable childhood memories, First of all, I was in kindergarten when I was five years. On my first day in kindergarten, my mother accompanied me until the class is completed. I was so scared to see the face one of teachers who taught there, actually she’s a good person and only her face frightened me and made ​​me not want to come class. One week my mother accompanied me because I’m still scared, after I knew she was a good person I'm not afraid anymore. After that I had become familiar without being accompanied mother and I have many friends there, enjoy playing with friends and the most I like when the kindergarten is the coloring and playing on the playground. On a day in kindergarten, when I was playing with my friends at the playground I fell out of the cradle. I cried non-stop because I feel very pain, my elbow was injured hit by large stones.

     Next, when I was in primary school, I like chatting with my friends when teachers teach in front, I do not pay attention. We just play at the back and talking about something. One day in class I heart chat with my friends, suddenly the teacher who teach approached us and she told us to go front of the class, after that we were made to stand with one leg lifted until finished its class. Very embarrassing and it is the first time I have a fine. Besides, I still remember when we get poor marks in the subject English, we will be fine. The fine that us have to do is 'walk like a duck' and we required round the field two times. Very exhausting, after that I study hard and never get a low marks. I do not want have to 'walk like a duck' again. I never forget this moment until now, school days is very exciting for me.

    Last but not least, the sad memories that I have when I was 8 years old. On a day I and my family go to clinic, only grandmother lived own at home. She is very old. When we returned home we found many people were at home. My mother came down from the car and she found grandmother had died. My mother faint after knowing about grandmother had left us. I cried non-stop and can’t accept what has happened. I am very sad to see my mother who was faint and worried because my mother take a long time to lose consciousness. At the same time my uncle had died too. That's a very sad day, we have lost two at all.

In summary, it was one of childhood memories that will never be forgotten. I never delete this memories until died it was the best and sad memories that I had.

Task 6

In writing, the common mistake that I always do is the application of the grammar. I understand the basic of grammar such as Simple Present Tense and Simple Past Tense but when come to Present Perfect Tense and others I get confused. I find that writing in English can be difficult because I need to use a proper grammar so the meaning and the structure of the sentence are delivered well. The first problem that I face when I start writing is wrong spell some word and confuse which a correct spell and grammar that I need to use when I writing. To overcome this problem is more practice and read more English articles, through it I can learn and improved my grammar. 

Task 5

Unfortunately, most of the air we breathe is not pure. It contains harmful substance called pollutants which cause air pollution. Air pollution is one of the major problems of the world. Air pollution can be reduced by planting more trees. Trees also bring rain which helps in cleansing the atmosphere. Factories and power stations are provided with all chimneys which carry smoke and waste gases high up into the air. In some industries, to settle down pollutants, wastes are sprayed with jets of water in scrubbers, before they reach the chimneys. In a few modern industries, electric current used to check smoke and dust particles. Nowadays, cars are fitted with a special device called a catalytic converter.  The catalytic converter converts hydrocarbons and carbon monoxide into harmless water vapors and carbon dioxide. New car engines are designed to use lead-free or unleaded petrol which is less harmful than the leaded one.

Task 4

Writing process can be divided into several stages. As we know, it started with topic sentences, supporting sentences and concluding sentences. For a topic sentence, it must begin by using the main point from the prompt. For instance is “write about your favorite sport”. So, it should be “My favorite sport is badminton”.

Then, continue it by three supporting sentences for the topic. The example of supporting sentences is “It easy to play”. “Playing badminton is lots of fun.” “Through badminton, I become healthier”.

Once it done, write more detail for each of the three reason or supporting sentences. For example is “Badminton is easy to play; it doesn’t need a lot of people to play it such as football or rugby that requires 10 above people to play it. Playing badminton is lots of fun, especially when I smash hard the white shuttle and got high scores. I feel great. Through badminton sport also I become healthier; I lost 3 kilos in 5 weeks just playing badminton”.

When it’s done go on to concluding sentence. Finish with a sentence that restates the topic sentence using different words. For example is “ badminton is the best sport that I ever play”.
